It's been a very busy week here.
On Monday I was out in Paramour with the film crew and presenter from the West Country Tonight programme. They were following the start of the Pendennis Cup for transmission on Monday night. There was even a shot of yours truly driving the boat! I have been out with photographers as well, who were taking pictures on various race days, for magazines as far a field as New Zealand!. It's been good fun.
On Wednesday evening we went over on Paramour to watch the Red Arrows. They were as spectacular as always and, as usual, bought a tear to my eye!
Thursday saw me drying Paramour out on the Frenchman that Peter made for me (he calls it a Lazy Frenchman, but it worked hard supporting Paramour's weight!). She was due another service on the engine and the Frenchman allowed Dave to carry out the work in the harbour rather than having to trail her out. Apart from me having to be up to my waist in water to position the Frenchman under Paramour's transom, it was much easier!
On Friday St. Mawes hosted the St. Mawes Day of Falmouth Week, with racing in the bay and live entertainment on the quay until Midnight. I was booked by the Sailing Club to bring crews and race officials to and from boats in the harbour. It was certainly a busy few hours but good fun, and I was able to join in the festivities later!
There have also been lots of shooting stars this week and, for the last few nights, phosphorescence in the water. I have never seen it before, and it really is quite spectacular. It's a blue light that occurs when water that has a certain type of algae in it, is aggitated. The algae absorbs sunlight energy during the day which is emmited as light when it's disturbed.
I first noticed it as I was paddling in a few nights ago; blue light was streaming from the kayak's bow wave and dripping off the paddles! We have since noticed it on the boat; on the bow wave and in the following wake. Nature can be so beautiful.
We have been very busy on the kayaks and I owe Sophie a big THANK YOU for running them almost singlehanded for the week!
There are a few pictures from the week in the gallery.
